More than 40 MPs and other supporters of the Action Mesothelioma Campaign attended a British Lung Foundation parliamentary reception at the House of Commons in London on February 27th, hosted by David Hamilton MP.
Professor Mike Richards, National Cancer Director, announced the launch of a new Department of Health policy to improve services for people with mesothelioma in England. British Lung Foundation Chief Executive, Dame Helena Shovelton, welcomed the Mesothelioma Framework, which was called for in the Action Mesothelioma Charter that was launched last year.
Dame Helena officially launched a new report from the British Lung Foundation, called An Unnatural Death, which calls for improvements in the way bereaved relatives are treated following a mesothelioma death. The report recommends changes that could be implemented in England and Wales to make procedures more sympathetic.
Department for Work and Pensions Minister, Jim Murphy MP, also attended the event and provided an update on plans to improve and speed up the way mesothelioma compensation claims are handled.
