Cyril's Story

In Memory of a loving husband, father Granddad and dear friend Cyril Naylor.

My father passed away August 22nd 2005 of a disease; we could only just pronounce Mesothelioma. After 5years of complaining of being short of breath and a year of not feeling good, being treated for ailments such as TB! He was diagnosed with Meso on his 74th birthday. 10 weeks later he was gone leaving a gaping hole in our hearts and my mother a widow after 55years.

My dad always had so much energy and charisma, always wanting to please people proud of his family and a never ending love for my Mum. They were never apart, people ask me who was I closer to. How I can answer that is, I saw them as a unit, inseparable.

Dad was a Winder at the Manvers Main colliery most of his life that’s where he came in contact with asbestos they believe it was in the brakes. But there was so much more to my dad than Meso that took everything away from him, his other love apart from his family was his dancing he organizes sequence dances and holidays which were very popular and gained many friends through this. I used to joke they had better social life than me!

Dad was known as Snowy through his Scout Master days and Father Christmas to hundreds of children in schools and playgroups for over 20years.

In this part of South Yorkshire there is a sense of shock that Cyril (Dad) is no longer with us, he said he’d fight it but unfortunately due to the nature if the disease he didn’t have a chance.

All his dear friends and family wanted to do something in his memory and donated £400 towards the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund. To help people be aware of what they are up against and lets pray that there will be a cure for this in the near future so no one else has to endure this pain and endless feeling of loss that we are going through and no one else has to loose someone dear to them in such a terrible way.
