Jean Turnbull Snowdrop Memorial Fund

 Jean and Ray Turnbull

2nd February 2010 Total £1,119.00

Jean sadly died on 22nd October 2009 age 62yrs ,after a two year fight against mesothelioma. A disease that had claimed the life of Ray’s wife and his mother.

Jean grew up near the notorious Turner and Newell chemical works in Washington. She could remember the “white heaps” at the chemical works. Tragically Ray’s mother had worked at the same plant and died of the disease in 1979.

At the time those working at the site and living near by at no idea about the lethal  asbestos fibres they were coming in to contact with.

Ray also remembers the white heaps of asbestos that the children used to play with like snow and many picnic in the near by fields.

Ray and daughters, Julia and Alison have set up this Memorial Fund in her memory. Ray has kindly donated £200 towards a Snowdrop Menorial Garden in the Washington area.  Family and friends donated £829 in loving memory.

24th December 2009: Simone Davis, very kindly made Christmas tags in aid of Jean’s Fund and raised £90!  Thank you Simone

“Twas the day before Christmas

And all through the office,

Simone was shaking her very full coffers,

The tags she has made

With such love and care,

Were all sold and hanging on presents somewhere

To the people who bought them

I’d like to say “thanks”!

You’ve raised £90 to put in the banks

Ray has passed on the cash

For the Snowdrop Fund cause

So be on the look out when the snow thaws

These little white flowers

Surviving the frost

Are planted by someone for loved ones they’ve lost

This money will help in research and care

Have a very Loving Christmas

And a Peaceful New Year! ”
