Fundraising for Danny!

Joanne with father Danny

Ready for Great North Run
She ran in support of the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research fund, a charity close to her heart as Danny was diagnosed with mesothelioma in June 2006. The fund championed Alimta, the chemotherapy drug that Danny had in 2006 and again in 2008. Alimta isn’t a cure but without it, the photo above would not have been possible, nor would the three years of retirement that we have been able to enjoy together.

September 2009 TOUR DE COLT Pyrenean Challenge Raised so far £1,445.00
Mark Fiander had the crazy idea to persuade us all (including his friends Ken Payne and Ed Brown) to raise money for a worthy cause. It’s through Mark’s tenacity that we were all able to face this immense challenge. And for that, we thank him…well until we started climbing those steep mountains!!!!
We chose the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund. British Lung Foundation as our worthy cause as it was close to one team member’s heart.
Mick’s father Ken bravely fought Mesothelioma for nearly two years. Sadly, after being cared for by his loving wife Alice, he passed away on the 30th of January 2009 at the age of 70. This industrial disease affects hundreds of people every year and there is no government funding for the research into finding out more about this awful infliction.
Mick would like to thank everyone for agreeing to raise money for this worthy cause.
