The Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund celebrated its 7th anniversary by holding an ASCOT BALL! Ladies arrived in fabulous fashions and head gear and everyone enjoyed a drinks reception sponsored by Thompsons Solicitors on arrival.

Guest of Honour was Mayor of Gateshead, John Eagles as well as the family of the late Mayor, Maureen Chaplin who sadly died from mesothelioma on 11th February 2009. Maureen had kindly chosed the MKMRF as her sponsored charity and daughters, Jill and Julie donated a cheque for a magnificent £12,000 in her memory.The family have set up the Maureen Chaplin Snowdrop Memorial Fund a lasting legacy to a special person.

Debbie Brewer a mesothelioma sufferer (www.mesotheliomaand me) travelled all the way from Plymouth with her friend Tina to join us it was great to have them with us. Debbie was delighted to be able to meet up with other sufferers, Jan Egerton and Bob Bayles and a good time was had by all!
