9L started off the year by selecting The Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Charity as their chosen aid organisation. At the end of September the form thought it would be a great idea to run a cake sale to raise some funds for the charity. The form came together and managed to raise approximately £75 by selling an assortment of cakes, biscuits and cookies. When Mr Simons, Head of The Cornwallis Academy heard of the great work carried out by the students he agreed to match what they had raised taking the tally up to a staggering £150.
The form did not stop there and thought they could do better and decided to run a non-school uniform day. The students came together and managed to collect the money from approximately 1000 students. The form raised another £700 for the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund and a further £300 for the Macmillan Cancer Research Fund.
Lorna Webster, a representative of the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund came to meet some of the students and David Simons. Daniel Kenward, Alice Arnold and Charlotte Rance, students of 9L handed the cheque to Mrs Webster who was very grateful, and this took the total figure raised to £850.
The students of 9L have excelled themselves with the fund raising and have showed a great team ethos to come together and work collectively.
A huge thank you to them all from MKMRF
