A delicious day of strawberry teas helped raise hundreds of pounds for the Mick Knighton Mesothelioma Research Fund. Strawberry Tea events saw offices, schools, care homes and householders get into the spirit and host a coffee morning with a strawberry theme.

The event, held for the first time, was a resounding success and raised hundreds of pounds there are plans to hold a Strawberry Time coffee morning every year. The North East Mesothelioma Self Help Group held a Strawberry Fair at Holmprior House in Whitley Bay and the workforce at Thompson Solicitors tucked into strawberry scones and cakes at their event.

Founder of the charity, Chris Knighton, hopes it will become the biggest summer coffee morning in the UK. Chris said she was pleased to see so many people get into the spirit of the event and would like it to become an annual fundraiser. She said: “We want this to become a national event and aim to get even more businesses, organisations and schools involved next year. The event has so far raised £700 and a few pounds!!!
